Is This the End of Mormon Movie Reviews?
After more than 200 reviews, is it time for Mormon Movie Reviews to come to an end?
When I started Mormon News Roundup in 2022, I never expected reviewing old Mormon films to become one of the defining features of the channel. I eventually created Mormon Movie Reviews as its own channel before eventually bringing it back here.
For years, I’ve reviewed everything from classic Church films and Living Scriptures productions to movies like *The Other Side of Heaven*, *God’s Army*, *Singles Ward*, *Legacy*, and *The Three Witnesses*. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with some wonderful creators and guests, and the series even included weekly Monday night livestreams where we watched and discussed Mormon films together.
But there’s a problem: these videos take an enormous amount of work, and the audience hasn’t grown.
Some reviews have taken 30–40 hours to research, write, edit, and produce. And while I genuinely enjoy the historical research and filmmaking, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to justify that amount of time when only a small audience watches the finished videos.
So I’m asking a difficult question: Has Mormon Movie Reviews simply run its course?
Maybe I never found the right audience. Maybe I should have approached the series differently. Maybe the livestreams needed to be more consistent. Or maybe there just isn’t enough interest in the kinds of Mormon films I’ve been reviewing.
And yet, I don't think the audience is necessarily the problem. When Alyssa Grenfell reviewed *Heretic*, her video reached nearly a million views. Clearly, people are interested in thoughtful discussions about Mormonism and Mormon-themed movies.
So what should I do?
Should Mormon Movie Reviews continue? Should I change the format or direction? Or is it time to close this chapter and focus my energy elsewhere?
Let me know what you think in the comments. I’ll be reading your responses, and your feedback will help determine what happens next.
