The Mormon Conundrum: Contradictions, Changing Doctrines & the Historical Record
What happens when you put the historical record of Mormonism on an evidence board—and connect the claims made by past Church leaders with what The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints acknowledges today?
In this investigative explainer, we examine a heavily documented dossier of LDS history, doctrine, and policy, focusing on five major questions:
🔎 The Transparency Question — How does the Church's claim of historical transparency compare with restricted documents, changing narratives, and the treatment of historians?
📜 Revising Foundational History — The Book of Mormon translation, the First Vision, the Book of Abraham, and changing accounts of Joseph Smith's early history.
💍 The Polygamy Paradox — Joseph Smith's public denials, his plural marriages, teenage brides, polyandry, and the evolution of the Church's official account of polygamy.
⚖️ Shifting Doctrines & Policies — Adam-God, the priesthood and temple restrictions on Black members, changing teachings about race, and the 2015 policy concerning children of same-sex couples.
⛪ The Revelation Dilemma — If doctrines and policies can change while leaders claim they represent the will of God, what does that tell us about the nature of revelation?
Rather than simply presenting conclusions, this video puts the claims, statements, historical documents, and modern admissions side by side.
The evidence is on the board. You decide what it means.
