The Polar Express — A Skeptical Mormon Kid’s Journey of Faith | Childhood, Doubt & Belief

Watch on YouTube

I know there have been countless commentaries on The Polar Express, but this movie holds a special place in my heart—especially around Christmastime. It’s my comfort film. Growing up Mormon, I’ve always felt the story echoes my own childhood experience with faith, authority, and doubt.

In this video, I break down The Polar Express through the lens of a skeptical, evidence-seeking kid:

The Unnamed Hero Boy: The everyman who questions authority.
The Conductor: A symbol of institutional religious authority.
The Hobo: The ghost of doubt and skepticism.
The North Pole: Heaven, doctrine, and myth-making.
The Bell: Evidence, belief, and the cost of skepticism.
Childhood Indoctrination: How we’re taught to believe without evidence.

Plus, check out a quick clip from BrittHartley (No-Nonsense Spirituality
) sharing her thoughts—though I respectfully disagree!

Join me as I explore why The Polar Express is more than just a Christmas story—it’s a journey about questioning, curiosity, and choosing reason over myth.
