How We Survived a Mormon Faith Crisis: 5 Things That Actually Helped Our Mixed-Faith Marriage
A Mormon faith crisis can shake a marriage to its core. For some couples, it exposes long-standing issues and ultimately leads to a healthy, necessary ending. For others—like us—it becomes an invitation to rebuild the relationship on a more authentic foundation.
In this video, we share the top 5 things that helped our mixed-faith marriage after leaving the LDS Church. These tools won’t apply to everyone, and they don’t guarantee that a marriage will (or should) stay together. Sometimes the most courageous, healthiest choice is separation.
But for us, these five principles made all the difference:
1️⃣ Real communication instead of church-scripted conversations
2️⃣ A new definition of partnership and autonomy
3️⃣ Understanding (not fixing) each other’s experiences
4️⃣ Rewriting the rules of our relationship after Mormonism
5️⃣ Letting go of fear-based narratives about divorce, eternal families, and “failure”
We also draw on insights inspired by Anthony Miller’s mixed-faith marriage work.
If you're navigating a faith transition, love someone who is, or want to better understand how a Mormon faith crisis impacts relationships, this video is for you.
