Elder Marcus Nash’s Imaginary Atheist | “Hold Up Your Light” LDS General Conference Breakdown
In this episode, we dissect Elder Marcus B. Nash’s 2021 General Conference talk “Hold Up Your Light,” where he recounts a conveniently tidy encounter with a so-called “self-proclaimed atheist” on a flight to Peru. From God-of-the-gaps arguments to unverifiable conversion stories, we unpack the logical fallacies, missionary myth-making, and theological gaslighting embedded in his remarks.
Highlights include:
🛫 The curious case of the folding atheist
📖 Why citing Joseph Smith as proof of God is circular logic
🌌 Misrepresenting science to boost faith
📉 The real success rate of handing out the Book of Mormon
🧾 Why spiritual anecdotes don’t equal spiritual truth
Elder Nash may hold up his light—but we’re flipping the switch on critical thinking.
