Brief Synopsis
A young Mormon woman matures as a person and devotee of her faith after she travels to Austria as a missionary.
The film is carried, in large measure, by Erin Chambers’s outstanding performance as Sister Taylor
"Errand of Angels" is a 2008 independent film that follows the journey of Sister Rachel Taylor, a young Mormon missionary assigned to Austria. While the film strives to depict the challenges and growth experienced by missionaries in a foreign land, it ultimately falls short due to its low budget constraints, lackluster plot, and uninspired execution.
One of the most glaring issues with "Errand of Angels" is its low-budget production values, which are evident throughout the film. From amateurish cinematography to minimalistic set design, the movie struggles to create an immersive world for its characters to inhabit. The limited resources at the filmmakers' disposal result in a visually unremarkable and often dull viewing experience.
Furthermore, the film suffers from a lack of a compelling plot. While the premise of a young missionary navigating cultural differences and personal challenges has the potential for emotional depth and resonance, "Errand of Angels" fails to capitalize on this opportunity. The narrative meanders without a clear direction, and significant events are few and far between. As a result, the pacing feels sluggish, and the audience may find it difficult to stay engaged with the story.
Additionally, the film lacks inspiration in its storytelling and character development. Sister Rachel Taylor, portrayed by Erin Chambers, is the central focus of the film, but her character remains frustratingly one-dimensional throughout. Despite facing various obstacles and moments of doubt, she fails to undergo significant growth or transformation. The supporting characters, including fellow missionaries and local Austrians, are similarly underdeveloped and fail to leave a lasting impression.
Overall, "Errand of Angels" falls short of its potential due to its low-budget production, lackluster plot, and uninspired execution. While it may appeal to devout members of the Mormon faith or those interested in missionary work, general audiences are likely to find little to enjoy in this forgettable film.
