It appears the LDS Church’s $5M civil penalty is the largest ever for 13(f) violations. Even the $1M penalty attributable directly to the 1st Presidency/Presiding Bishopric beats previous records.

Church historian and recorder tells BYU–Idaho students In the face of doubts, make Jesus Christ your foundation VIDEO ‘Is your knowledge and testimony of truth strong enough that you can stare down compelling reasons to doubt and choose to believe?’ 5:40 Clip Wait, there are compelling reasons to doubt the Church or its leaders?! Having perplexing questions from reasons to doubt is not a problem, Elder McKay said. “But please understand, finding answers to these perplexing questions ultimately is not the solution.” Seems to be making the argument that Saints should not seek to find answers to perplexing questions By acknowledging the existence of reasons to doubts, Elder McKay said, he is not legitimizing them. There are absolutely no good reasons to doubt the church or its leaders for any reason, now, in the past, or in the future. Doubt is literally Satanic So what do we do with error? Nor has God appointed you, me or anyone to be an arbiter of error in His leaders, scrutinizing every word or act of apostles and prophets to make sure they fit within our current understanding of correctness. 15:02 Do not scrutinize or fact check church leaders teachings nor characters, nor see if those teachings line up with the STANDARD WORKS! Past prophets could be “mistake-prone at times, just like the ancients” 14:15 So JS made mistakes? Oh if Elder McKay would just name one such mistake, or even a few mistakes. The Church loves to bring up ancient examples of fallible Biblical leaders, but I am not familiar with one example of church leaders making mistakes in the last 200 years How about just one modern Church example of an error? 19:55 Especially odd for the Church historian to espouse the idea that difficult gospel questions should not be scientifically or historically studied, but instead we should all just rely on divine feelings. And he is giving this speech at a University!
